Comprehensive Plan
The 2024 Comprehensive Plan is a vital community blueprint. It sets the direction for where and how the city should grow over the next 10 years. Within this broader goal of growth, there are a number of community-wide objectives the plan envisions, centering around affordability, sustainability, and equity. The Planning and Development Department has a significant role to play in the realization of these objectives and wider goals; Every decision that departmental staff makes is in deference to the Comprehensive Plan and the advancement of the objectives therein. These objectives are monitored by a Comprehensive Plan Implementation Committee manned by department staff and members of City Council.

Zoning
The Planning Department works with the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of appeals to update and enforce the City of Oberlin’s Zoning Code. This Code determines critical standards regarding land use and development, directly influencing our built environment.

Work is underway to amend the Zoning Code to better reflect the goals and aspirations agreed upon by the community and codified in the Comprehensive Plan.
