Oberlin Caring Fund – Utility Bill Assistance

If you are experiencing financial hardship due to the effects of the Coronavirus and will have difficulty paying any residential utility bill (City utilities, gas, propane), please contact Oberlin Community Services for assistance at 440-774-6579.

The City of Oberlin has authorized additional assistance through the Caring Fund for residential utility customers during this time.  Customers are now eligible to receive assistance even if they have already received assistance within the last 12 months, and are no longer required to have a shut-off notice prior to receiving assistance.

Oberlin Community Services – Food Distribution & Emergency Assistance

Oberlin Community Services (OCS) offers drive-up, contact-free food distributions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30pm – 5:30pm and Fridays from 1:30pm – 4:00pm at 285 South Professor Street in Oberlin.  Please have your trunk cleaned out, as food will be placed directly into your trunk.  There is no need to get out of your vehicle.

OCS also offers Pop-Up Pantries, to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to neighborhoods in Oberlin.  The Pantries are open to everyone and everything is FREE.  Click HERE for the Pop-Up Pantries schedule.


FEMA COVID-19 Funeral Assistance

Under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, FEMA will provide financial assistance for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020.  FEMA will begin to implement COVID-19 funeral assistance in April.  Click HERE for more information.

Lorain County Public Health Resources

  • Low-Cost Prescriptions – LCPH’s Prescription Assistance Program can help provide medicine at no or low cost to people who are uninsured, underinsured, or those with a high deductible or co-pay. Call 440-322-6367
  • Car Seat Program – The Lorain County Car Seat Program educates parents and guardians on child passenger safety. The program also allows qualifying residents to buy a car seat or booster seat for $25.
  • WIC Supplemental Food – The WIC program provides food and nutrition counseling to pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, and children up to age 5. Call us to see if you’re eligible: 440-323-7320

State of Ohio Home Relief Grant

The State of Ohio is working with local Community Action Agencies to help eligible Ohioans with rent, mortgage, and water and/or sewer utility bill payments.

Lorain County Emergency Housing Assistance Program

Lorain County amended its CHIP Program to create the Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHA Program). The EHA Program was created to assist Lorain County citizens with up to 3 months of rent assistance or mortgage assistance if they have suffered an economic hardship from COVID-19.
