Oberlin City Council is the legislative body of the City of Oberlin. All legislative action is taken by ordinance or resolution, except when otherwise required by the Constitution or laws of the State of Ohio. All formal actions of City Council concerning or relating to the adoption of ordinances and resolutions contained in the published legislative index were adopted in an open meeting of City Council and all deliberations of this Council and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal actions, were in meetings open to the public in compliance with all legal requirements, including Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code.
All ordinances and resolutions of a general or permanent nature, or those involving the expenditure of money in which no emergency is declared, shall take effect thirty (30) days after their passage by Council. Emergency ordinances shall take immediate effect as provided by Section X of the Charter.

The Council may provide for the revision, rearrangement and codification of the ordinances of the Municipality or any portion thereof as such time as Council may determine. A copy of the City’s Codified ordinances complete to January 1, 2019, can be found here.
