Revision of the Zoning Code

Work is underway to amend the Zoning Code to better align with the community’s goals and aspirations as outlined in the Comprehensive Plan. The updated code will modernize the City’s approach to housing, introducing greater flexibility in allowable housing types and densities. These changes are designed to address the dual challenges of housing availability and affordability in Oberlin, easing economic pressures and supporting access to dignified housing for all residents. Previous restrictive standards such as large side-lot setback requirements and prohibitions on accessory dwelling units have been removed and replaced with more balanced regulations that promote intentional, human-scale growth.
