From Approximately 12:00am Midnight – 6:00am

First Energy discovered a broken cross arm brace and failing equipment on the 1.6 mile dual circuited 69kV line feeding Oberlin. To make repairs, First Energy has a planned CITYWIDE outage starting at midnight on Sunday, October 30 that will last until approximately 6:00am in the morning.  In case of inclement weather, a backup date is scheduled for midnight on Sunday, November 6, lasting until 6:00am in the morning.

Please plan for this outage, including plans for your refrigerated and frozen foods.  CDC guidelines for refrigerated and frozen foods during a power outage are:
  • Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed.  If the doors stay closed, food will stay safe for up to:
    • 4 hours in a refrigerator
    • 48 hours in a full freezer
    • 24 hours in a half-full freezer

Alerts regarding the power outage will be provided by the City through our emergency alert system, WENS (Wireless Emergency Notification System).

Please click on the button below to register for WENS or contact the Oberlin Fire Department at 440-774-3211 to register over the phone.

WENS allows you to choose how to receive alerts (text messages, voicemail, and/or email) and allows the City to send you targeted alerts of situations affecting your neighborhood, in addition to citywide alerts.

NOTE: WENS has replaced the Reverse 911 & CodeRED notification systems.  Registrations from these systems cannot be transferred, so you will need to register with WENS to receive emergency alerts.

Community members are also encouraged to follow us on Facebook and Twitter or visit for any updates regarding the power outage.

Please note that emergency services will not be interrupted during the power outage.
Please plan accordingly for the power outage and we appreciate your patience during the replacement of the 50-year-old transformer.
